ABOUT US
St. Mawaggali (Choma) trades training Institute is a faith based and grant aided technical skills training Institute owned by the Diocese of Monze of the Catholic Church. It is a grade 2 TEVETA affiliate and one of the training institutions run in partnership between the Church and the Ministry of Technology and science and one of the Centres of Excellence.
IT was officially opened on 10th October, 1970 having being initiated by the first Bishop of the Monze Diocese the Right Reverend James Corboy. The prime objective was to provide skills training to the Zambian public in engineering and construction programmes.
The development of the infrastructure and the subsequent equipping of the workshops were funded by a German financier called Misereor. A congregation of Irish Christian Brothers was the first Bishop’s Managing Agency until early two thousand (2000) when they withdrew their services and surrendered the management of the Institutional back to the Bishop’s office.
In 2022 the Diocese of Monze signed a contract with the congregation of Brothers of Charity being the selected as the Bishop’s new Managing Agency. The congregation’s mandate working alongside the institute management Board would be to promote the Diocesan’s education policies and that of the pastoral, social economic and cultural growth of the trainees.
The St. Mawaggali Trades Training Institute management board was established in early 2000 following the enactment of the TEVET Act No. 13 of 1998 which had ushered in management boards in the TEVET institutions.
